DocNest Terms of Service

Last updated: 9 May 2026 Effective date: 9 May 2026

These terms govern your use of DocNest, a personal document vault operated by Rohit Kale (“we”, “us”, “DocNest”). By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. They are a contract; please read them carefully.

If you have questions about anything below, email rohitkale523@gmail.com.

1. The short version

The rest of this document is the long version.

2. Eligibility

If you are signing up on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind the organisation to these terms.

3. Your account

4. What you can use DocNest for

5. What you must NOT use DocNest for

You agree not to upload, store, or share through DocNest:

You also agree not to: - Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source of the app beyond what Indian law permits for interoperability. - Use automated means to upload, scrape, or interact with the service in ways that load our infrastructure unfairly (e.g. uploading 10 GB of content in a minute). - Share your account credentials with anyone. - Probe, scan, or test the security of the service without our prior written consent. (If you find a vulnerability, please report it to rohitkale523@gmail.com — we welcome responsible disclosure.)

If you violate these rules, we may suspend or terminate your account without notice. For severe or recurring violations we may also cooperate with law enforcement.

6. Your content stays yours

You retain all ownership and intellectual-property rights in the documents you upload. We do not claim any licence over your content beyond the narrow operational licence below.

By uploading content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence only to: - Store the content on your behalf - Transmit it between our servers and your devices (and devices of family members you have authorised) - Process it through Google’s Gemini API for the purpose of extracting metadata - Display it to you and your authorised family members

This licence ends the moment you delete the content (or your account). It does not include any right for us to use your content for training AI, advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.

For end-to-end encrypted content, this licence is functionally meaningless — we cannot read or process the content, only store the ciphertext and route it back to you.

7. Service availability

DocNest is in early access. We make no specific uptime guarantee. Our backend (Supabase, Mumbai region) generally targets 99.9% availability but we are subject to upstream outages of Supabase, Google Cloud, and Apple/Google services.

We may: - Take the service offline temporarily for maintenance or to deploy fixes - Change features, including removing them, with reasonable notice in release notes - Throttle or rate-limit account behaviour we believe is abusive

We will not deliberately delete your data without notice. If we ever decide to shut down DocNest entirely, we will give at least 60 days’ notice and provide an export tool so you can take your data elsewhere.

8. Backups are your responsibility

We make commercially reasonable efforts to back up your data. We do not promise that we will always be able to restore it. For documents that are truly irreplaceable, please use Settings → Export data periodically and keep a copy somewhere outside DocNest.

9. Pricing

DocNest is currently free for all users while in early access. We may introduce paid plans in the future. If we do: - Existing users will be notified at least 30 days in advance - We will not paywall existing data — your already-uploaded content will remain readable on a free tier we maintain - Family-sharing and emergency-view features will continue to work for at least one family member without charge

10. Termination

You may terminate the agreement at any time by deleting your account from inside the app (Settings → Delete account). Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

We may terminate or suspend your account if: - You materially violate these terms (especially §5) - We are legally required to do so - You have not signed in for 24 consecutive months and we send you a 30-day warning email that goes unanswered

On termination, all your data is deleted within 7 days; storage objects are unlinked immediately and physically purged within 30 days.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

DocNest is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that: - The app will always be available - Bugs will always be fixed - Search results will always be accurate (Gemini is an AI; verify critical answers against the source documents) - The service is suitable for storing legally-required-to-be-retained records (consult a lawyer if your use case is regulated)

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to DocNest or these terms is limited to the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months (which, while DocNest is free, is zero).

We are not liable for: - Indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages - Lost profits, lost data, or lost business opportunities - Damages arising from your forgetting your vault password - Damages arising from a family member you invited misusing the access you granted them - Outages or data loss caused by our upstream providers (Supabase, Google, Apple, Sentry, Firebase)

This limitation does not apply to: - Death or personal injury caused by our gross negligence - Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation - Any liability that cannot be excluded under Indian law

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of: - Your breach of these terms - Content you upload that violates §5 - Your misuse of the service

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If the change is material, we will: - Update the Last updated date at the top - Push an in-app notice you must acknowledge before continuing to use DocNest - Mention the change in the next release notes

Continued use of the service after a material change means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, your remedy is to delete your account before continuing to use DocNest.

15. Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka, except that you may bring small-claims style disputes in your local consumer forum where Indian consumer-protection law permits.

Before filing any legal action, both parties agree to attempt good-faith resolution by email for at least 30 days. Reach out to rohitkale523@gmail.com first.
